It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to South Hardin Middle School. Whether you are a student, parent or guardian, staff member, or a community partner, your participation in the learning process is essential to our success. The middle school years are essential for a rewarding and successful educational experience. It takes the efforts of every individual associated with the school to make these learning opportunities a positive experience for our students. Education and the opportunity to be a lifelong learner is often taken for granted, but free education is one of the greatest privileges we have as Americans.
We also realize the middle school years should be filled with positive and memorable experiences. The SHMS staff strives to be a warm and welcoming community. We know the value of building positive relationships with all students and connecting school experiences to life experiences. In addition to the daily lessons, this is accomplished through thematic days, field trips, sporting events, concerts, community presentations, Tiger Pride Assemblies, as well as, class and school wide celebrations.
Strong attendance is key to any student's learning success. A student must be in school to be able to progress in learning. No student should miss more than 10 days of school or they become at risk for missed learning. It is also a great habit to form as they prepare for the adult career world.
Self-improvement happens through hard work and daily effort. At SHMS we focus on the positive things our students, staff, and community do every single day. Our high expectations are clearly listed and support every student’s learning. Should expectations not be met, learning supports will be made available. We ask all students to show their Tiger Pride; be respectful of those around you, be responsible for yourself, be safe, and do your best in everything you do.These traits will help students develop an increased amount of pride in self and your school, as well as, prepare you to be a successful citizen in our communities. We believe school is a place for students to try new things without fear of failure because failure is simply an opportunity to learn. Students will be expected to try many new activities, work on study habits, and learn about themselves.
Hundreds of people assemble daily at SHMS to learn together about themselves and their world. At SHMS, we believe all students belong and all students can learn. THIS IS OUR SCHOOL AND OUR KIDS. Be proud of it and take pride in what you do here as a member of the SHMS team.
With respect,
Mr. Kevin Henrichs
